Subject: Interesting tidbit on Texas Recruiting.

So i'm guessing you all saw Tom Kensler's article on CU's struggles
recruiting in Texas. I thought some good points were made and we
certianly could stand to have a bigger and better influence there
but I'm not sure it's imperative. Ultimately it comes down to
quality as oppose to quantity no matter where you get the kids from.
California will always be our meal ticket when it comes to
recruiting. I would have liked to have seen Kensler compare the
California recruiting numbers. I'm sure they'd tell a different
story.

While I was reading over CU recruiting notes last night I came
across an interesting stat. Did you know that in their first 5 years
hawkins and Bill McCarntey recruited the exact same number of kids
out of Texas? I would not have guessed that. Both coaches landed 9
players from Texas in their first 5 seasons. Mac ultimately landed
29 kids from Texas in his 12 years basically somewhere between 2 and
3 kids a year. I wouldn't necessarily call that killing in Texas.

Of course, that was in the big 8 and hawk is in the big 12 which has
a bigger presence in the Lone Star state. On top of that, I'm sure
McCartney grabbed a higher quality of recruit as well.

Go Buffs.
